Animal Companion Remembrances

Patrick

In memory of Mickey and Peter Bickford’s wonderfully joyful cat Patrick who left us far too soon. “We adopted Patrick from Kitty Kind in New York City. He had been abandoned in a locked apartment without food or water. His cries were heard by neighbors who called the police.  Patrick was named for the police officer who came to his rescue by busting through the door. Despite all his trauma and physical issues (most of his teeth had been removed because of infections) the description on his cage at the adoption center was spot on: ‘Very Social & Loving Cat. Loves People & Loves To Be Pet. Very Friendly Mellow Boy!’ He was all that and more!  We miss him dearly.”  Remembrance donations from Jon & Jeanne Bickford, Linda Rose, Meg Crane, Gayle Carroll & Ed Berberian, and Judy Wolfe, October 2021.

Buda

In remembrance of Buda, companion to Kelly and Steve Boghossian.  “‘Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.’ – Yesterday we said goodbye to our very good dog Buda. We shared our lives together for the past 16.5 years, but what I wouldn’t give for one more day. A sassy girl to the end, she made our lives richer every moment. My heart is broken without you, sweet wonder dog. Have fun with all your friends on that side of the rainbow bridge. I know they have chicken nuggets there. Goodnight sweet girl. Daddy and I loved you the most (don’t tell the cats!).”  Remembrance donation by Judy Wolfe, November 2021.

Byron

Bryon, loving companion to Vicky Nayer and her mother Lidia Levine, succumbed to old age. Over the years, he gamely shared his home with a ferret and several cats and refined his skill of stealing food from the cat dishes while avoiding confrontations. While possessed of a dignified character, he indulged people in playing dress-up (here he is dressed as a flower). Remembrance by Jacqueline Birnbaum, Dean Surkin, and the Lighted-Collar Gang, September 2021.

Bosco

In memory of sweet little Bosco, who crossed the rainbow bridge much too soon at only 6 years of age.  Beloved fur baby of Jim and Sherry Paules, Bosco loved his family and his family’s friends, never failing to greet everyone with enthusiastic jumps and kisses.  Bosco was full of spunk and energy, and no squirrel, gecko, or rabbit was safe in his backyard.  He loved playing with his toys, stealing socks from the laundry, and he never failed to alert the household when a person or another pet dared to walk down “his” street (was he guarding his house or hoping to go out and play with those interlopers?)  Bosco loved his play time at doggy day care, wearing himself out playing with all his friends.  Yet, as lively as Bosco was, he also loved lap time, and would curl up in a lap or snuggle up against his mommy’s shoulder, drifting off to sleep.  Smart, sweet and fun, Bosco was a joy to his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.  Losing Bosco left a hole in all our hearts.  He truly will be missed and will live in our hearts and our memories forever. Remembrance donation by Jon and Jeanne Bickford, September 2021.

Lars “Larry” Bickford

In loving memory of Lars “Larry” Bickford, best friend to everyone he met, and a lover of all creatures. His best friend Queenie, who loved to climb on Lars’s shoulders, misses him terribly, particularly their rough and tumble play times.  It is only fitting that Lars is the first human recognized by a Binky remembrance.  Remembrance donations by James and Sherry Paules and Linda Rose.

Penny

In Memory of Penny, lover of kittens, fresh green grass, walks, all people she met, but especially of her human, Kari. Penny was, truly the best girl, leaving her paw print on the hearts of all she met, the biggest paw print of course, left on her human’s heart. Penny will be missed, and while she may be gone, her spirit and memories live on. She will be there in Spring when the grass sprouts fresh and green, she will be there in the fall for a crisp morning walk, she will always be by her human’s side in spirit reminding her of the good memories they had and the good things to come.  Remembrance donation by Jennifer Kepler, August 2021.

Sam

In loving memory of Sam, beloved companion of Maria and Albert DiMeglio.  “Sam is one of triplets.  His brother, Samson died on July 13, 2018 and we paid tribute to him already here at the Binky Foundation.  Sam was a born leader from the very beginning.  I have rheumatoid arthritis and on my bad days, Sam would never leave my side; he was my shadow.  Throughout the years, Sam fought many illnesses, but he was a fighter.  Sam was loyal, loving, playful, extraordinary, incredible, remarkable and a gentle cat.  Sam was my shadow, companion, protector and my dear sweet buddy.”  Remembrance donation by Maria and Albert DiMeglio, August 2021.

Baxter

In memory of Baxter:  Lover, fighter, master of claws, eater of all plants, intrepid saboteur, and subject of many epic tales that will live on far beyond his 17.5 years.  He took his unmatched stubbornness into his final moments on 6/6/2021, stopping his own heart before the vet could, in one last act of defiance against authority.  He will be greatly missed, but mostly just by one person, his loyal servant Amy Yambor.  Remembrance donation by Judy Wolfe, June 2021.

Mable

In remembrance of Mable.  “Sadly, Mable, our daughter Kirsten’s pet and our foster dog and pal to our little Ginger, passed away May 16, 2021. She was loyal to the end and a beloved part of our family. Love your pets while you have them because you never know.” Mabel is survived by Steve and Anne Wagner and Ginger. Remembrance by Jacqueline Birnbaum and Dean Surkin, May 2021.

Louie

Louie, beloved companion to Pamela and David Kauffman. “Louie and his biological brother Tucker were 5 month old pups who were being neglected and lived outside in a yard owned by the worst kind of backyard breeder. They had no names and were severely emaciated. My daughter alerted us to this situation and we immediately went and got them. We nursed and trained these 2 boys until they were strong; Louie was the weaker of the 2 pups so we kept him and adopted Tucker out to good people. Louie and Miles (our other adopted boy) bonded and were together, literally bookends until 4/2/2021 when Louie crossed over. He loved to play with Miles and was a mischievous boy always stealing Miles’ toys. He brought so much life to our home. He loved a good belly rub and offered it to us at every opportunity. He loved meeting new people and was a friend to all!” Remembrance by Jacqueline Birnbaum and Dean Surkin, April 2021.
